well, the blog site has not been abandoned, despite appearances….
i have spent a lot of time wandering in blog land, inspired and very distracted by so many wonderful people
my new header is a snipit of a quilt, which is due to appear in Australian Quilters Companion next may >>beam<<
after missing the quilt for some time, and constant complaints re: same, it was time to remake teddy bear’s picnic. i do not really believe in remaking quilts, but it was good fun and the perfect excuse to buy a new sewing machine….
here is a little cupcake to cellebrate the greatness of the machine… which has all the bells and whistles i could wish for in a machine…

yesterday i had the pleasure of spending the day with this little bub. this is her, several hours old. she is a bit pudgier these days (only a few weeks down the track) as she has a very loving mum and dad who ensure that she never goes hungry. she is such a tiny little creature, but it is amazing the calming power and huge sense of wonder that she seemed to provide for the entire family. we spent about an hour just sitting around watching every little movement. she didn’t really do much- i think she’s practicing her focus at the moment. i really wanted to take a photo of her every week, but have already missed about two weeks.
almost overnight, we have had an instant cold snap- the weather is fantasticly clear and crisp. i just love it! quality of sleep improves almost instantly. although, maybe it’s not so much the cold, but mereley the calming pressure from the weight of five quilts stacked on our bed because my b/f refuses to dress appropriateley for winter sleeping.
and perfect weather to justify all quilting activity- which is very rare in townsville. i have been binding a few quilts this week in preperation for the christmas in july markets approaching. tracey and i have been making lots of baby quilts with flanel backings from our hand dyed fabrics- it’s been a great activity with the recent cold. this is a picture of a little stash buster that i have been working on over the weekend.
also perfect wedding weather. i went to a bueatiful, simple and to the point. most importantly it was short! i know that weddings are a once in a lifetime experience and all that, but it is so nice to be able to retain concentration for the entire ceremony.
This is a quilt recently completed using our hand dyed fabric. my photography isn’t flash and i don’t think it really shows the colours that well.
another baby quilt…… i’m just letting it stay at my house a little longer before i hand it over……. it will be going to a loving home though. does anyone else go through this anguish?
after lunch at work, i hoped onto a bed for a manual handling demo and spread weed seeds all over the sheets. ’yes…..yes i have been rolling in the bushes…. it’s a long story’ i mumbled. shortcuts are never as clear cut as they seem. it is amazing the little adventures that you can have by foot. today, i realised that i had been un-licenced for a week and i had to resort to lots of walking. it made me realise how many little things i miss out on, carrying on the same routine expedition to work in the car. for instance, every day i spend two and a half hours commuting to and from work. after over a year of taking this route, i recently discovered that for a split second, we have a magical glimpse of the sea at sunset from the most unexpected vantage point. ok, that’s it- tomorrow i’m going to start walking again!!
renel, my best friend since seven/ most unconventional person i know, caught up on the weekend (part of our tri-annual catch up). she has been riding her bike phenomenal distances lately and has collected and washed random bits of material from the road side. she wants me to help her make a wagga- i can’t wait to see what she’s collected and will show photos once underway!
well, here it is- after much procrastination, my first post. welcome!
a brief introduction- i am an occupational therapist by trade but quilter in every other spare moment. i have been doing crafty things for as long as i can remember and look forward to meeting other like minded people via this blog.
in the last year or so, i have been thrilled to meet two other quilters that are incredibly talented and also quilt to the likes of butterfingers and the hill top hoods- hence the beginings of the cool quilters group. it is an amazing feeling to finally meet other like minded folks out there….
this is a quilt that i made at the begining of the year. it was given away as a present for my boyfriends sister’s new baby. she is the first baby born into that side of the family and is the most precious & dear little bundle. but i guiltily confess that i really miss this quilt amd plan on making a second one. i think the attachment relates to the fact that it has been made from scratch. my friend tracey and i started dying fabric and this is the first quilt that i had made from it.
